Overcoming The Monday Blues

Thank God It’s Monday | (mondays:) Part 1

The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.

Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

  • Answer either question: What would be your dream job, or what would be your nightmare job?
  • Describe the most challenging aspect of your current job.

Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

Romans 12:1
"So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him."

  • As you read this passage, how do you “take your everyday, ordinary life” and “place it before God as an offering?”
  • Pastor Todd said, “We often try to separate the sacred from the secular.” Why should we stop trying to do this?
Genesis 1:26-28
  • Pastor Todd stated, “The Master Designer has masterfully designed you.” As you read the above passage, share two ways this encourages you.
Psalm 90:17
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.”
  • Most people, especially Christians, want the favor of God to rest on them. What would that look like at your job?
Titus 2:9-10
“Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way.”
  • “Excellence increases influence.” How does the passage above remind us that working hard and to the best of our ability speaks well of our God?
  • What are two things you can do at your job this week that can demonstrate your trustworthiness and goodness?

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

As we discover the theology of work, we start to understand the WHY we work and the WAY we work. It involves three principles:

1. Your work is FROM God.
  • Read Genesis 2:15. Pastor Todd reminded us that God is a working God, and this verse declares we were meant to create and work. Since this is so, why do you think people still struggle to find peace at work?
  • Pastor Todd said, “Work is a gift to humanity, not a result of sin.” What are some reasons you are thankful for your job? Remember to thank God for these in your prayer time this week.
2. Your work is FOR God.
  • Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people.” How does this verse remind you “there is a mission to the mundane?”
  • As you honestly look at your performance at your job, how can you do it better this week by working at it “with all your heart?” Are there any changes you should make?
3. You work WITH God.
  • 1 Corinthians 3:9 says, “We are God’s co-workers in God’s service. . .” As you consider this verse, how does it give you hope and joy?
  • Discuss two ways your job has enabled you to have a closer relationship with God.

Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Pastor Todd closed this powerful message challenging us to “Take God to Work This Week.” How can you do this?
  • S.O.A.P out a passage of Scripture from this week.
