Start Talking – Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

• When was a time you knew you had to give your best effort to something?
• Have you ever given up something that was important to you so that you could have something that was even more important? What did you learn in that experience?

Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

Read these Scriptures out loud:

Romans 12:1

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

• Notice that this verse talks about offering ourselves as living sacrifices “in view of God’s mercy.” Our sacrifice is offered in response to how good, merciful, and gracious God has already been to us.
• What do you think it means to “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice”?

John 12:1-3

• In John’s account of the story, we are told that the woman with the perfume is Mary. Why does the sacrifice start to make a little more sense knowing the sacrifice was made by Mary? [Read John 11 for more context.]

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

1. Your Sacrifice is Not a Waste

• The disciples did not understand why Mary did what she did. When have you done something for God that others may not have understood?
• Mary gave her best to Jesus. Do you find it easy or a challenge to give your best to Jesus? How come?

2. Your Sacrifice is Spiritually Significant

• Why was it significant that Mary gave up something that was valuable to her?

3. Your Sacrifice Will Outlast You

• When have you benefitted from the sacrifice of someone else who went before you?
• What are some sacrifices you can make that will have impact which will outlast you?

Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.

• What is one thing you can do this week to have a positive impact on someone that you may never even meet?
• Pick one of this week’s key Scriptures and make it a reminder in your phone. Spend a few minutes repeating it and thinking about it each day.
• S.O.A.P out the Scripture this week.
