The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.
Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend
- Have you ever gotten somewhere only because of who you knew?
- What does it feel like when you are talking to someone, but you know they aren’t really listening?
Keep Reading – Read the Scriptures and ask a question to get the group thinking.
Read these Scriptures out loud:
James 1:1
James, a slave of God and the Lord Jesus Christ…
- Why is it important for us to anchor ourselves to whose we are rather than who we are?
James 1:19-22
- Why do you think we have a natural tendency to speak more than we listen?
- What are some ways that we can get rid of the “filth and evil” in our lives?
Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.
1. Hear God’s Word
- God’s Word says that we should be quick to listen and slow to speak. What percentage of your time with God is spent talking vs. listening? Are there any changes to that percentage you would like to make in the future?
- What can we do to better hear God’s words?
2. Accept God's Word
- What is the difference between hearing the Word of God and accepting God’s Word as the authority in our lives?
- Isaiah 40:8 reminds us that the Word of God stands forever. How can this give us confidence to fully accept God’s Word in our lives?
3. Do God’s Word
- Pastor Todd mentioned that in the original language, the word translated “doer” carries the inherent meaning of ‘becoming.’ When James talks about being a “doer of the Word,” he is not talking about following a list of religious do’s and don’ts but rather being transformed into the image of Jesus by being obedient to what God says in His Word.
- Why does God place so much emphasis on doing what the Word says? What benefit does James reveal comes about by being a doer of the Word?
Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.
- Pastor Todd shared some practical steps he uses when reading and applying God’s Word to his life:
1. Read it out
2. Write it out
3. Ask: How can I live it out?
4. Try to memorize it.
- This week, we were challenged to take the following steps:
1. Read through James as part of this series
2. Join your Christ Fellowship family in going through the 21-Day Devotional on the book of James in YouVersion
3. Stop ignoring the areas in your life where you’ve been ignoring God’s voice and begin doing what He’s been speaking to you.
- S.O.A.P out the Scripture this week
