The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.

Start Talking –
Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

  • There are many miracles in the Bible. If you had to pick one, which would be your favorite miracle (excluding the resurrection of Jesus)? Why did you choose that miracle as your favorite?
  • How would you define the word miracle? Have you or someone in your family personally seen or experienced one before?

Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

Mark 5:21-23, 29, 34-36, 39-42

  • The miracle of the raising of Jairus’ daughter is noteworthy for a variety of reasons. Pick one of the two subjects below and share what amazes you the most about this aspect of the story:

— Jairus’ faith

— The removing of the crowd that laughed and doubted Jesus

  • In the middle of this passage about Jairus’ daughter, we also read about the miracle healing of the woman with the issue of blood. Compare and contrast the method of both healings. What does it mean for us today that Jesus did miracles in various ways?
I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it…
John 14:12-13
  • As you read John 14:12-13, what does this passage say about miracles? Why would some Christians say miracles aren’t possible today?
  • How can this passage bring hope to anyone, no matter what they are going through? Can you describe a time when you almost lost all hope and were ready to give up on God? How did you persevere during that time?
Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
Hebrews 11:1
  • As you understand this passage, restate how faith is described in this verse.
  • Some unbelievers say faith is nothing but a blind leap or a suspension of all rational thought. How does this passage speak against that?

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

Pastor Todd defined a miracle as the supernatural interrupting the natural.

How Can You Experience Miracles in Your Life?

1. GET to Jesus.

  • Matthew 18:20 says: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” How would you describe the difference between knowing about Jesus, and knowing Jesus? Did you ever struggle with this? If so, how did you move on to a genuine relationship with Jesus?
  • Psalm 27:14 says: “Wait for the Lord; Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Pastor Todd reminded us that prayer connects us to the power of God, but when the miracle doesn’t happen immediately, what three things did he say to do as we “wait?”

2. GROW your Faith.

  • Read Matthew 17:20, 8:13, and 9:29. These verses stress the importance of faith and that it should grow. Pastor Todd reiterated these verses saying faith can’t remain “as small as a mustard seed” because it’s supposed to grow! Why? What can happen if faith doesn’t grow?
  • Evaluate your faith today. How does it compare with your faith in God last year or even five years ago? Other than daily reading and studying God’s Word (the primary way our faith grows), what other ways do you nurture your faith to ensure growth?

3. SPEAK LIFE over your Problem.

  • Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue can speak words that bring life or death.” How does this relate to a discussion about miracles? Share a time when you’ve seen words of life or words of death encourage or deflate faith.
  • How do whining, complaining, and being mad when things seem to be falling apart actually hurt your faith? What is a better response to tough times?

Keep Moving/Going – Commit to a step and live it out this week.

  • Pastor Todd said, “The place of your greatest disappointments can become the place of your greatest miracle.” If you are struggling in an area of life, and are expecting and praying for a miracle, what steps below are you willing to take this week to grow your faith:

— Join a small group or class which starts in the next few weeks to be nurtured by the Word of God within a community of faith.

— Gather with some Christian friends and ask for prayer and strength during this challenging time.

— As Mark 5:36 reminds us, you may need to “ignore” what some people are saying and believe and trust “only” in the Person and promises of God!

  • S.O.A.P out the Mark 5 passage this week to continue growing your faith.
