The weekend doesn't have to end. Keep Talking on your own or with a group.

Start Talking - Find conversation starters for the group or with a friend.

In our teaching today we look at the story of Saul, who would become Paul, one of the most influential people in the Christian faith.

  • Have you ever thought that God couldn’t use you because of your past? How does the story of Paul impact your thinking about how God may work in and through you?
  • Are you making declarations about yourself that God has never made: Saying you’re not worthy? That you’re too broken? That you have nothing to offer? Who gets the final say in this narrative?

Keep Reading – Read the Scripture and ask a question to get the group thinking.

In Scripture we find the story of the revelation of Saul in the book of Acts.
Acts 9:1-9
  • Saul was intent on his mission to bring harm to Christians. But in one single moment his life shifted. Have you ever had such a moment where everything changed instantaneously? What was that like?
  • In Saul’s story he was made utterly helpless. When have you ever been reminded in a very real and undeniable way that you are totally reliant upon God?
Acts 9:10-19
  • Pastor Todd mentioned God’s sense of humor by sending Paul to a street called Straight to “straighten” him out. Do you think of God in that way? Are there other stories in the Bible where you’ve seen little glimpses of things that make you think God has a sense of humor? How does that influence how you see God?
  • What do you think your response would have been if you had been Ananias? Has God ever asked you to do something you really did not want to do? What was that like?

Keep Talking – Choose questions to create openness.

We see three very distinct things in the story of Saul/Paul. Let’s look at them a bit more closely.
1. The power of revelation.
  • God is faithful to show us what we need to see. The question is whether God has been trying to show you something that you have been fighting against.
  • What perspective do you currently have that you think God wants to change?
Without revelation people run wild, but one who follows divine instruction will be happy.
Proverbs 29:18 (CSB)
2. The power of repentance.
  • Repentance includes a change of mind, heart, and actions.
  • What is something in one of these areas in which you need to repent?
Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation…
2 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV)
3. The power of redemption.
  • Through the redemption of God we not only have freedom from the captivity of sin, but the freedom to experience the life God intended for us.
  • What does it mean for you personally to have freedom TO something? Not just FROM something?
In him, we have redemption through his blood.
Ephesians 1:7 (NIV)
